Traverse is a comprehensive lo-fi tape effect and stereo delay plugin that seamlessly combines the warmth of analog cassette emulation with the spatial capabilities of a modern delay unit. As the third entry in the Motion Effects family, it offers a deeply interactive sonic palette for producers looking to add vintage character to their audio. The plugin is built around two primary processing sections that can be chained together, allowing you to utilize it either as a tape-flavored delay or as a dedicated cassette effect. At the heart of the cassette side lies a sophisticated magnetic-hysteresis tape model that utilizes state-dependent nonlinearity equations wrapped between pre-emphasis and de-emphasis filters, complete with oversampling to authentically replicate a physical cassette deck. The Drive control sweeps the signal from pristine new tape to a fully driven state, responding dynamically to signal history rather than relying on a static saturation curve. To further emulate physical imperfections, the Wow and Flutter controls provide independent depth adjustments for slow pitch drift and faster modulation jitter, each driven by its own low-frequency oscillator with a layered noise component to create a natural stereo wobble. A bipolar tilt equalizer named Tone sits directly inside the cassette signal flow, allowing you to darken or brighten the sound with a single knob.

The delay section operates with equal depth, offering a stereo delay time that ranges from twenty milliseconds up to ten seconds in free mode, or snapping to host-tempo beat divisions when synchronization is engaged. The feedback control manages recirculation and is intelligently ceiling-limited to prevent the loop from running away into infinite distortion. A continuous width parameter handles ping-pong routing, sending echoes across the stereo field. What truly sets this plugin apart is the tape emulator placed directly inside the feedback loop, meaning every single repeat is re-processed through the drive, tone, wow, and flutter modules, allowing the echoes to bloom into a self-saturating wash. A post-delay routing toggle alters the processing order; the default configuration processes the audio through the cassette engine first and then the delay, while engaging the toggle flips this order so the cassette only processes the delay tail, transforming the plugin into a more conventional tape-flavored delay with a clean input path.

Beyond the core delay and tape emulation, Traverse introduces a highly detailed four-control splice system designed to simulate procedural tape dropouts. This system allows you to set the event rate, the depth of the dropout, and toggle specific pitch-chirp and amplitude-dip components, enabling you to dial in anything from a perfectly clean spool to a heavily degraded tape. Layered on top of this is a curated procedural noise generator featuring nine distinct voices, including tape hiss, crackle, dust, fan rumble, sixty and fifty hertz hum, white noise, pink noise, and a unique Califone card reader simulation. This noise feeds directly into the cassette path, ensuring it is shaped and colored by the tape engine on every single repeat. For added realism, a gated noise feature automatically drops the noise floor by twenty decibels whenever the input audio is silent, ensuring that the tape hiss only speaks when the track is playing.

For seamless integration, the plugin includes a standard dry and wet mix control that defaults to fully wet, alongside a click-free bypass that utilizes a smoothed fifty-millisecond crossfade for artifact-free live comparisons. Traverse is designed for maximum compatibility across all major operating systems, offering native support for Windows, macOS, Linux, and iOS. The extensive format support includes CLAP, VST3, Audio Unit, AAX, and LV2 for desktop environments, as well as AUv3 for mobile devices. In true Audio Damage fashion, the software is provided with a perpetual license that completely eliminates the need for DRM, subscriptions, or physical dongles, and a fully functional demonstration version is available for download, featuring a twenty-minute session timer to allow thorough testing.
