What's new
Temecula DSP Deep/4 represents an innovative software solution delivering a genuine, meticulously crafted emulation of the iconic Ensoniq DP/4 multi-functional effects processor, designed for seamless operation across macOS and Windows environments and featuring absolutely all forty-six original digital audio signal processing algorithms.

A significant number of music enthusiasts and professional audio content creators harbor a sincere, profound attachment to vintage synthesizer instruments from bygone eras. Similarly, there exists a separate, rather substantial category of sound design aficionados who dedicate their creative time, efforts, and resources to collecting, studying, and practically applying vintage hardware devices intended for professional audio signal processing. For the most devoted, true fans of retro equipment and classic studio gear, specialized printed publications and reference materials are even produced, such as the comprehensive book Vintage FX, which thoroughly and comprehensively examines the historical development path, technical specifications, and characteristic sonic qualities of classic processing effects.

Released back in the distant year of 1992, the multi-functional Ensoniq DP/4 processor represents a fully MIDI-compatible multi-effects unit that fits perfectly into this prestigious category of professional studio equipment and continues to enjoy stable, enduring popularity among numerous music producers, sound engineers, and mixing specialists worldwide. Excellent, long-awaited news for all interested professionals and enthusiasts: Temecula DSP has officially introduced and released the DEEP/4 product - a high-quality software emulation of this truly legendary parallel multi-effects processor, recreating its unique, recognizable sound with maximum accuracy within modern digital production environments.

Temecula DSP DEEP/4

The Deep/4 plugin is a fundamentally new multi-functional audio processing tool, developed specifically for full-featured operation on macOS and Windows operating systems, which emulates both the internal architecture and characteristic sound of the original Ensoniq DP/4 hardware multi-effects processor with the highest possible precision. According to official, verified information provided by the developers at Temecula DSP, the DEEP/4 product recreates the functionality of the original device directly at the machine instruction level, guaranteeing unprecedented, previously unattainable accuracy in transmitting all characteristic features and sonic nuances of the legendary processor.

All four ES5510 digital signal processors are emulated with careful consideration of the original 24-bit fixed-point architecture - mathematically precise, literal reproduction without any approximations, assumptions, or simplifications, as the creators of this plugin particularly emphasize in their technical documentation.

At present, the plugin development process is in its final, concluding stage; however, the product is already fully available for purchase and use. In the current, up-to-date version, users receive full access to the first forty-three processing algorithms, distributed across seven main categories characteristic of the original Ensoniq DP/4 device, including the following extensive effect groups:

  • Reverb algorithms: hall (spatial reverb of a large concert hall), large room (voluminous reverb of a spacious room), small room (compact reverb of a small space), large plate (large plate reverb), small plate (small plate reverb), reverse reverb (reverse reverb effect), gated reverb (gated, truncated reverb), non-linear reverb I, II, and III (three varieties of non-linear reverb algorithms), retrigger reverse reverb (reverse reverb with retrigger functionality);
  • Modulation-type effects: 8-voice chorus, classic flanger, phaser combined with digital delay line (DDL), EQ + DDL algorithms (including chorus, flanger, tremolo, vibrato, panning modulator, DDL with LFO modulation), plus highly accurate emulation of the rotating Leslie speaker;
  • Delay algorithms: multi-tap delay (multi-point, multi-stage delay), dual delay (dual, stereo delay), tempo delay (tempo-synced delay), 3.3 sec delay (delay with maximum duration of 3.3 seconds);
  • Equalizers and filtering modules: parametric equalizer with flexible adjustment, Vanderpol filter, rumble filter (specialized filter for suppressing low-frequency noise and hum), VCF distortion (distortion effect based on vocal filter);
  • Pitch effects and pitch modulation: pitch shifter (classic pitch shifting), pitch shifter + DDL (combined pitch shifter and digital delay line algorithm), fast pitch shift (algorithm for rapid, instantaneous pitch transposition);
  • Guitar amplifier and speaker cabinet emulation: Guitar Amp I-III (three different guitar amplifier modeling variants), speaker cabinet (detailed emulation of speaker cabinets and enclosures), tunable speaker (speaker with adjustable resonant characteristics);
  • Dynamic signal processing: EQ compressor (compressor with built-in equalizer), expander (classic dynamic range expander), inverse expander (inverted expander with reverse characteristics), de-esser (specialized de-esser for controlling sibilant consonants), ducker-gate (combined ducker-gate), keyed expander (expander with external key signal functionality).

Currently undergoing final refinement and optimization are the vocoder algorithms (with supported frequency bands Low/Mid1/Mid2/High), the extended 3.3 Sec Delay 2U version, and the enhanced Pitch Shift 2U algorithm, all of which will be added in upcoming scheduled software updates.

Flexible, Multi-Functional Audio Signal Routing System

Each algorithm featured in the plugin provides users with an extensive, meticulously developed set of adjustable parameters, enabling precise customization of effect characteristics and behavior in full alignment with individual creative objectives and specific requirements of any given musical project or production session.

The emulation maintains the same degree of flexibility, versatility, and functionality as the original hardware unit. Users can chain all four independent effects sequentially in series mode, split them into parallel processing chains for creating complex multi-layered textures, or utilize advanced routing with feedback loops to generate continuously evolving, self-modulating, experimental soundscapes.

The DEEP/4 plugin provides completely independent routing control for each channel pair (A/B and C/D), while also including reliable integration with the main bus - supporting serial, parallel processing configurations and two distinct feedback routing options with adjustable feedback signal depth to achieve desired creative results.

Temecula DSP supplies the DEEP/4 product with a complete collection of nearly three hundred factory presets, carefully organized by device configuration types (1U, 2U, 4U) and distributed across several thematic banks for maximum navigation convenience, quick searching, and instant access to desired settings during workflow.

It should be honestly and openly acknowledged that, until now, I have not had the opportunity to closely and thoroughly familiarize myself with the original Ensoniq DP/4 hardware processor in real-world studio conditions. Nevertheless, I am reliably aware that this impressive effects processor still appears quite frequently in professional recording studios and historically represented one of the first deep multi-effects processors to establish fundamentally new standards of quality and functionality in the field of digital audio signal processing.

For those musicians, producers, and sound engineers who feel genuine affinity for retro-style multi-effects units like the DP/4 but, for various reasons, lack the necessary budget to acquire the original, relatively rare hardware device, this software emulation represents an excellent, unique opportunity to integrate the characteristic, recognizable sound of this 90s legend directly into their digital audio workstation at a price representing only a small, negligible fraction of the original hardware unit's market value.

The Temecula DSP Deep/4 plugin is now fully available for purchase and instant download at $75. The product operates in modern VST3, AU, and AAX formats on macOS (with native, optimized support for both Apple Silicon and Intel processors) and Windows platforms, ensuring maximum compatibility with the vast majority of contemporary digital audio workstations and production environments.
